About the Role

This position sits within the Infrastructure Section and is responsible for patching management activities and improving system infrastructure, particularly on-premises server and storage systems.

The role may also support multi-cloud infrastructure, primarily in Microsoft Azure, including Office 365 applications, Standard Operating Environments, and end-user device management via Microsoft Intune. Reporting to the Assistant Director, Patching Team, the role focuses on delivering patching, hardening, and security compliance for systems while ensuring clear communication, coordination, and governance adherence across teams.

This role is based in Canberra, with flexible work options available. It offers an opportunity to contribute to the maturity of the agency’s systems and the successful delivery of electoral events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Implement solutions to address software vulnerabilities and configuration hardening based on tool stack priorities and governance processes.
  • Prepare, develop, and improve documentation for systems in line with governance standards.
  • Collaborate across teams to enhance security compliance, supporting adherence to legislation and internal policies.
  • Drive continuous improvement processes to uplift section capabilities and support patching requirements across the Chief Information Officer’s Division.
  • Troubleshoot technical issues independently or within a multidisciplinary team, building a knowledge repository for legacy infrastructure.
  • Ensure timely delivery of solutions and provide high-standard technical and design documentation.
  • Investigate and resolve complex issues in collaboration with other teams, enhancing and improving existing infrastructure solutions.
  • Design, develop, implement, and test solutions aligned with business requirements and software development standards.
  • Perform additional duties or assume responsibilities as required.

Highly Desirable Criteria

  • Experience managing and migrating solution infrastructure to the Azure platform.
  • Relevant IT qualifications, including cloud certifications.
  • Knowledge of Australian IT cybersecurity frameworks.
  • Familiarity with IT governance frameworks (e.g., ITIL and TOGAF), compliance standards, and security protocols, particularly in an Australian government context.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement, including optimizing workflows and aligning with best practices.
  • Strong conceptual and analytical abilities with knowledge of change management practices.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with vulnerability management tools such as MECM, Nessus, Stelite, and Ivanti.
  • Experience deploying, testing, and maintaining enterprise-scale ICT environments.
  • Understanding of risk management principles, especially in security patch and infrastructure management.
  • Effective communication skills to convey complex technical information to varied audiences.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to build productive working relationships and foster collaboration.

Mandatory:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of enterprise IT solutions on-premises and in cloud environments.
  • Proven ability to analyze complex technical issues and develop effective solutions.
  • Knowledge of security compliance frameworks like PSPF and ISM controls.
  • Personal drive, integrity, and alignment with legislation and best practices.

Additional Skills:

  • Strong documentation, troubleshooting, and solution development skills.

  • Ability to meet deadlines while delivering quality technical outputs.
