About the Role

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Business Intelligence (BI) Developer to join a major Queensland Government Department. 
 

Key Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance existing Power BI reporting products, including dashboards and data models.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, and vendors to design and deliver user-focused BI solutions.
• Develop Power BI data models, datasets, and interactive reports that meet business and operational needs.
• Conduct performance analysis and optimise reports for improved efficiency.
• Undertake system and unit testing to ensure data quality, accuracy, and integrity.
• Investigate and resolve issues and bugs within existing reporting products.
• Produce and maintain technical documentation, metadata, and quality assurance checks.
• Actively contribute to planning sessions, sharing progress updates, and identifying risks or blockers.

Highly Desirable Criteria

• Proven expertise in Microsoft Power BI report and dashboard development.
• Strong experience working within data warehouse and ETL environments.
• Demonstrated capability to translate business requirements into functional, data-driven solutions.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Azure DevOps, and SQL Server Management Studio.
• Knowledge of data warehouse architecture, data modelling, and report optimisation techniques.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience working within government or large, complex organisations.
• Understanding of education-related data and reporting frameworks.
• Familiarity with agile project delivery and collaborative, cross-functional team environments.
• Strong documentation and communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.

Skills and Experience

• Extensive experience designing and developing interactive Power BI dashboards and data visualisations.
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain robust data testing and validation processes.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Proactive approach to work, with the ability to self-manage and prioritise tasks effectively.
• Team-oriented mindset with a collaborative, solution-focused approach.
