About the role
A high-profile federal government transformation program is seeking a seasoned Data Architect to shape and lead the end-to-end data architecture for a suite of new cloud-hosted applications. This role is part of a broader digital reform initiative aimed at delivering enhanced regulatory capability and transparency within the electoral framework.
The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring data is structured, integrated, governed, and accessible across projects and environments. This is an excellent opportunity to influence the strategic direction of a mission-critical program, while working in a collaborative and outcomes-focused team environment.
Key responsibilities
Define and maintain the program’s overarching data architecture, including data domains, models, standards, and governance structures
Develop and document logical and physical data models to support both application-specific and shared data requirements
Collaborate with developers, analysts, solution architects, and integration specialists to ensure consistent and efficient use of data structures and services
Design integration patterns between new cloud-based systems and legacy/on-premise platforms using APIs, event-driven models, or data pipelines
Guide and implement data governance practices, including metadata management, master data management, and privacy considerations
Act as a data architecture subject matter expert and mentor to multidisciplinary teams
Lead performance optimisation efforts and manage data lifecycle strategies across the program
Support cross-program data alignment, reuse, and secure sharing mechanisms
Highly desirable criteria
Strong expertise in cloud-native data services including Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Azure Data Factory, and Synapse Analytics
Familiarity with key data architecture concerns such as identity and access management (IAM), data lineage, data protection, and compliance
Proficiency in conceptual, logical, and physical data modelling
Experience with RESTful APIs, message queues, and ETL/ELT integration patterns
Desirable criteria
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
Certification in cloud architecture or data engineering (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate)
Experience working in agile delivery environments and within multidisciplinary product teams
