About the role

We are seeking an experienced Microsoft 365 Migration Specialist to support a large-scale migration project involving the transition of data from on-premises file servers to Microsoft 365. The successful candidate will play a key role in planning, coordinating and executing migration activities, ensuring data integrity, security and minimal disruption throughout the process.
 

Key responsibilities

• Plan, coordinate and execute data migration activities, including migration waves and batches.
• Conduct pre-migration assessments to identify data quality issues, permissions discrepancies, path length limitations and unsupported file types.
• Configure and operate enterprise migration tools such as ShareGate, SharePoint Migration Manager or similar products.
• Migrate data from on-premises file shares and file servers to Microsoft 365.
• Perform post-migration validation, reconciliation and data integrity checks.
• Troubleshoot migration failures, access issues, permissions conflicts and data migration exceptions.
• Develop and maintain PowerShell scripts to automate migration and administrative tasks.
• Utilise Microsoft Graph, APIs and other automation techniques to support migration activities.
• Monitor migration progress and prepare reports, dashboards and status updates.
• Manage permissions mapping across NTFS, SharePoint and Microsoft 365 environments.
• Support user and group management activities involving Microsoft Entra ID.
• Develop and maintain technical documentation, migration procedures, knowledge articles and support materials.
• Collaborate with technical teams, project staff and school stakeholders to ensure migration activities are completed efficiently and effectively.

Highly desirable criteria

• Strong hands-on experience with enterprise migration tools, including ShareGate, SharePoint Migration Manager or equivalent solutions.
• Demonstrated experience delivering large-scale Microsoft 365 migrations involving substantial data volumes.
• Strong technical knowledge of SharePoint Online, Microsoft Teams, OneDrive and Microsoft 365.
• Proven experience migrating data from on-premises file shares or file servers to Microsoft 365.
• Strong PowerShell scripting skills and experience with Microsoft Graph, APIs and automation.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct migration assessments, troubleshoot complex issues and perform post-migration validation.
• Understanding of NTFS permissions, SharePoint permissions, Microsoft 365 access controls and Microsoft Entra ID.

Desirable criteria

• Experience working in large government, education or enterprise environments.
• Experience supporting Microsoft 365 roll-out or digital transformation projects.
• Experience with Power BI or similar reporting and dashboard tools.
• Experience administering SharePoint Online and Microsoft Teams.
• Experience working with school stakeholders or supporting technology projects across multiple sites.

• Strong analytical, problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams and non-technical stakeholders.
• Ability to plan and coordinate multiple migration activities in line with project timelines.
• Strong organisational skills and attention to detail, particularly when managing data integrity, permissions and migration exceptions.
• Ability to produce clear technical documentation, reports and status updates.
• Demonstrated ability to meet mandatory requirements and deliver assigned responsibilities.
• Availability to commence on the requested start date.
