About the Role

A Federal Government agency is seeking experienced Enterprise Application/API Developers to contribute to a range of ICT projects and programs. The successful candidates will be responsible for developing efficient, scalable, and secure APIs to support the agency’s enterprise applications. This includes close collaboration with cross-functional teams to support systems through development, integration, testing, monitoring, and resolution of technical issues.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with system analysts, data engineers, and stakeholders to design and develop integration solutions using Microsoft Azure tools (App Services, Logic Apps, Functions, Service Bus).
  • Design, build, and manage high-quality APIs, ensuring reusability, scalability, and robust version control.
  • Write clean, efficient, and maintainable integration code.
  • Conduct code reviews and execute testing strategies (unit, integration, regression).
  • Monitor API performance and optimise for speed and efficiency.
  • Troubleshoot integration issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Document API endpoints, specifications, and deployment procedures for internal and external developer use.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, best practices, and integration patterns.
  • Interstate travel to Canberra may be required periodically for onboarding, planning sessions, or training.

Highly Desirable Criteria

  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure services: App Services, Azure Logic Apps, Azure Functions, and Azure Service Bus.
  • Knowledge of additional API technologies including GraphQL, SOAP, and microservices architecture.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g. Azure DevOps) for automated deployments.
  • Familiarity with tools or platforms such as Micro Focus Fortify, SailPoint, ServiceNow, or AWS.

Desirable Criteria

  • Understanding of API security protocols (OAuth, JWT).
  • Exposure to integration design patterns and enterprise architecture principles.
  • Experience working in a government or large-scale ICT environment.

Essential

  • Proven experience as a software developer with proficiency in C#.
  • Strong experience designing and developing RESTful APIs.
  • Understanding of authentication protocols and secure API development.
  • Familiarity with data structures, databases, and integration tools.
  • Experience using API testing tools and methodologies.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
