About the role
We’re seeking an experienced Data Architect to join a dynamic team delivering trusted, high-quality data solutions. This is an exciting opportunity for a strategic data and information architecture leader who can translate business needs into practical, scalable data architectures and govern their adoption across the organisation. In this role, you will collaborate across multiple teams, suppliers, and stakeholders to drive alignment and delivery, providing leadership as an individual contributor and ensuring data services are reliable, secure, and enable effective decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and adoption of enterprise data architectures, strategies, standards, and operating models.
- Navigate and coordinate across multiple teams, vendors, and stakeholders to deliver end-to-end data platforms and solutions.
- Manage complex programs, including roadmap planning, dependency management, and risk mitigation.
- Oversee data modelling, metadata management, data quality, master/reference data, and lifecycle management.
- Enable BI and analytics capabilities at scale, ensuring governance, security, and compliance.
- Apply information security, privacy, and compliance best practices, including data access controls, encryption, and retention.
Highly desirable criteria
- Proven experience in enterprise data architecture and governance.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Dataverse, Microsoft Fabric, and Power BI.
- Experience delivering cloud-based data architectures (Azure Data Lake Storage, Synapse/Fabric, Data Factory/Pipelines).
- Strong understanding of API integrations, ELT/ETL processes, and event streaming (Event Hub/Kafka).
- Demonstrated ability to manage complex, cross-team programs.
- Expertise in data modelling, metadata, data quality, MDM/RDM, and data lifecycle management.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate, Power BI Data Analyst Associate, TOGAF, DAMA/CDMP).
- Prior government or public sector experience.
- Experience enabling BI/analytics self-service, including workspace governance, certified datasets, and row-level security.

- Strong collaboration and communication skills, capable of navigating complex stakeholder environments.
- Strategic thinker with problem-solving expertise in enterprise data architecture and governance.
- Committed to public service values, delivering trustworthy and high-quality data services.
- Capable of leading by example and role-modelling leadership behaviours as outlined in the Leadership competencies for Queensland.
- Must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency, or hold a visa permitting work in Australia.
