About the role

A Federal Government department seeks an Enterprise and Solution Architect to support enterprise architecture capability and solution design across digital and ICT initiatives.

The role spans enterprise strategy, architecture governance, portfolio planning, and solution delivery. You will guide architecture practices while delivering solution architecture leadership for major technology initiatives.

You will work with business stakeholders, ICT delivery teams, and governance bodies to ensure technology decisions align with enterprise architecture strategy and whole of government standards.
 

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Architecture

• Design and implement an enterprise architecture framework tailored to the department
• Develop and maintain enterprise architecture artefacts such as capability models, target state architectures, technology roadmaps, and technology landscape views
• Strengthen architecture governance to support consistent and scalable technology decisions
• Translate strategic priorities, policy drivers, and investment planning into enterprise architecture guidance
• Provide architecture advice for portfolio planning, technology investment proposals, and whole of government alignment

Solution Architecture

• Lead and assure end to end solution architecture across digital and ICT initiatives
• Produce and review architecture artefacts including high level designs, detailed designs, options analysis, and architecture assessments
• Ensure solution designs align with enterprise architecture standards, cyber security requirements, and government policy
• Work with delivery teams, cyber security specialists, platform engineers, and business stakeholders to design sustainable technology solutions
• Identify architecture risks, dependencies, and constraints and provide recommendations for decision making

Capability Uplift and Collaboration

• Work across ICT and business areas to ensure architecture practices are adopted consistently
• Coach architects, project teams, and stakeholders on architecture practices and standards
• Contribute to architecture capability improvement including tools, frameworks, patterns, and governance practices

Highly Desirable Criteria

• Experience working within Australian Government departments
• Knowledge of Digital Transformation Agency architecture frameworks and standards
• Experience contributing to whole of government technology strategies

Desirable Criteria

• Experience supporting enterprise architecture capability uplift programs
• Experience contributing to architecture governance boards or technology investment reviews

Skills and Experience

• Minimum 5 years experience working as an Enterprise Architect, Solution Architect, or across both domains
• Experience delivering enterprise architecture artefacts and solution architecture designs in complex environments
• Strong knowledge of enterprise architecture principles, practices, and governance
• Experience designing end to end solutions across application, data, integration, cloud or infrastructure, and security domains
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and business audiences
• Ability to translate strategic objectives and business requirements into architecture deliverables
