About the role

Our federal government client is seeking an experienced Infrastructure Architect (Cloud Architect) to meet emerging needs of the department and business areas.

Key responsibilities

• Design and input into the technology architecture for the delivery and sustainment of cloud-based solutions using Microsoft Azure that are secure, reliable, performant, cost-effective, and enable operational excellence.
• Understand solution architectures to be able to analyse existing systems to develop plans to assist with migration to cloud native solutions. 
• Development of cloud-native frameworks, operating models and patterns – working in collaboration with release and infrastructure teams.
• Supporting onboarding and implementation approach guidance to developers and system teams to ensure consistent use and delivery of hosting infrastructure.
• Collaborate with cross-functional business and technical teams to cost, design and oversee implementation of cloud-based solutions. This can include assisting guidance of infrastructure, CI/CD pipelines and non-functional requirements.
• Provide cloud solution and infrastructure guidance and leadership for sound decision-making by providing expert advice that considers experience impacts, workforce skills, business processes and the longer-term strategic roadmap.
• Maintain awareness of emerging technologies and contributes to continuous improvements and opportunities.
• Performing additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by the supervisor from time to time.
• Participating in Performance discussions as required by the supervisor.

Essential criteria

• Technical experience designing and delivering enterprise-class native cloud solutions and services using Microsoft Azure technology stack and integrations with various cloud and on-premises systems.
• Experience demonstrating cloud leadership and communication of cloud solution designs and decisions to various stakeholder groups, including senior management, in writing, in person and via Video Conferencing.
• The ability to work in a fast-paced agile delivery environment with delivery teams, and other stakeholders, to design and implement complex IT systems, with emphasis on timeframes, quality, and governance procedures.
• Experience in the use of DevOps and Agile practices and processes, and knowledge of SDLC.
• Experience documenting cloud architecture design artefacts.

Desirable criteria

• Experience in software engineering and delivering digital solutions.
• Knowledge and understanding of Whole-of-Government architectural direction and standards.
• Experience in using Microsoft’s Azure Well-Architected Framework, and Microsoft’s Cloud Adoption Framework.
