About the role

Our State Government client is looking for an experienced IT Technical Lead – Data & Analytics to lead the design, development, and implementation of enterprise data solutions using Microsoft Fabric, SQL databases, ETL data ingestion pipelines, and Power BI.
This position combines hands-on technical expertise with leadership responsibilities, ensuring scalable, secure, and high-performing data systems that support business intelligence and data-driven decision-making across the organisation.
 

Key responsibilities

• Lead the architecture and design of data solutions using Microsoft Fabric and related technologies.
• Define best practices for data modelling, storage, and integration across SQL and cloud platforms.
• Mentor and guide data engineers and BI developers, overseeing code reviews, documentation, and adherence to standards.
• Design and implement robust ETL pipelines to ensure data quality, consistency, and reliability.
• Manage and optimise SQL Server databases and cloud-based data warehouses.
• Develop and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports to meet business needs.
• Deliver data-related projects from inception to completion, ensuring quality and timeliness.
• Implement data governance and security policies, including access controls, data lineage, and audit trails.
   

Highly desirable criteria

• Proven experience leading technical teams in data and analytics projects.
• Strong expertise in Microsoft Fabric, SQL Server, ETL tools, and Power BI.
• In-depth understanding of data architecture, data warehousing, and cloud technologies (e.g. Azure).
• Skilled in DAX, T-SQL, and performance optimisation.
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps in data environments.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
   

Desirable criteria

• Microsoft certifications in Azure Data Engineering or Power BI.
• Experience with other BI tools or data platforms (e.g. Snowflake, Databricks).

• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively across technical and business teams.
• Experience working within government or highly regulated environments will be highly regarded.
