About the Role

Our State Government client is seeking a Java Developer to support the delivery of key digital transformation initiatives that contribute to improved service delivery outcomes.

In this role, you will provide technical leadership across the design, development, testing, deployment, and operational support of modern digital solutions. Working within an agile environment, you will help deliver outcomes incrementally while mentoring other engineers and promoting engineering best practices.

The successful candidate will contribute to the development of scalable, cloud-native applications and services using contemporary software engineering approaches including microservices, APIs, DevSecOps, event-driven architectures, and Infrastructure as Code.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, maintain, test, and support back-end software services and components.
• Write, modify, debug, and optimise code to support business and technical requirements.
• Collaborate with Architects, development teams, and stakeholders to ensure solutions align with architectural standards and business needs.
• Analyse business requirements and translate them into scalable technical solutions.
• Diagnose and resolve production issues, implementing enhancements and continuous improvements.
• Develop and maintain automated testing and validation processes.
• Deploy software solutions into production environments using DevSecOps practices.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering teams.
• Mentor and influence team members on engineering standards, best practices, and modern development approaches.
• Contribute to solution design and continuous improvement initiatives.

Highly Desirable Criteria

• Minimum 3 years’ experience as a Software Engineer or Back-End Developer.
• Strong experience developing microservices and APIs using Java and/or Kotlin.
• Experience designing and building RESTful web services.
• Experience working with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
• Experience with Terraform and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) practices.
• Demonstrated experience applying Domain-Driven Design (DDD) principles.
• Experience implementing event-driven architectures and event streaming solutions using Apache Kafka.
• Experience deploying and supporting containerised applications.
• Ability to work effectively in ambiguous and evolving environments.
• Practical, outcomes-focused and value-driven approach to software delivery.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience developing solutions using C#.
• Python development experience.
• Experience with both containerised and serverless application delivery models.
• Experience developing Kubernetes Operators.
• Exposure to modern DevSecOps practices and automated deployment pipelines.

• Experience across the full software development lifecycle including design, development, testing, deployment, and support.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration skills.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues using logical and methodical approaches.
