About the role 

We are seeking experienced and motivated Senior Cloud Architects / Cloud Engineers to support the delivery of a range of ICT projects within a federal government environment.
This is a senior-level opportunity suited to professionals with 5+ years of experience implementing, managing and designing cloud-based systems, with strong expertise across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.

Key details

• Initial contract: 12 months
• Extensions: Up to two 12-month extensions
• Working arrangement: Remote, with arrangements considered on a case-by-case basis subject to business requirements
• Security clearance: Baseline
• Experience level: Senior / EL1 equivalent

Key responsibilities

• Develop enterprise-level cloud platform architectures across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
• Develop high-level solution architectures for cloud-based systems.
• Produce detailed architecture guidance for cloud engineers and delivery teams.
• Assess stakeholder and user requirements and provide impact analysis.
• Provide technical guidance and input into the design and implementation of cloud-based solutions.
• Ensure enterprise and system solutions align with whole-of-government standards and relevant architecture principles.
• Collaborate with business owners, Scrum Masters, Business Analysts, Developers, Enterprise Architects and Testers to deliver solutions aligned with project objectives.
• Work with Service Experience teams to ensure architectural decisions incorporate user experience considerations.
• Liaise with ICT Engagement and Enterprise Architecture teams to maintain alignment with target architectures and technology strategies.
• Provide expertise and support across platform automation, testing, continuous integration and continuous deployment.
• Support the application of enterprise architecture principles across cloud platforms, including reuse, configuration and open data/access.
• Promote solutions that align with the Digital Service Standard.
• Provide technical leadership, mentoring and influence across multidisciplinary teams.
• Undertake additional duties as required.

Highly desirable criteria

• 5+ years’ demonstrated experience implementing and managing cloud systems and technologies.
• Strong experience across Microsoft Azure cloud services, including:
• Azure App Services
• Azure Functions
• Azure Logic Apps
• Azure SQL
• Azure Service Bus
• Azure API Management
• Strong experience with Azure DevOps, including source code management, repositories, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD deployments.
• Experience with Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Key Vault, Azure Monitor and Application Insights.
• Demonstrated experience integrating cloud-based systems with third-party platforms, including Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM.
• Strong understanding of Azure networking, security and identity capabilities, including Virtual Networks, Private Endpoints and Role-Based Access Control.
• Experience working with Agile, multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, reliable and user-friendly solutions.
• Ability to work effectively with geographically dispersed teams and technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Demonstrated ability to mentor team members and contribute positively to collaborative team environments.

Desirable criteria

• Demonstrated track record of providing technical leadership across project and operational activities.
• Strong understanding of cloud-based technologies, architectures and modern cloud delivery practices.
• Experience across application and integration architecture and/or infrastructure platform architecture.
• Minimum 3 years’ experience designing and documenting architectures for large, complex enterprise systems.
• Experience with AWS and/or GCP is desirable but not essential.
• Experience working within Australian Government or other highly regulated environments will be advantageous.

Skills and experience

• Strong cloud architecture and engineering experience, particularly across Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
• The ability to develop and manage enterprise and application-level architectures.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• The ability to translate business and technical requirements into practical cloud solutions.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, networking, identity and integration.
• Experience with automation, Infrastructure as Code and CI/CD practices.
• Ability to provide technical guidance while working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt priorities and scope as requirements evolve.
• A strategic mindset with the ability to influence technical decisions and promote sound enterprise architecture principles.
• Australian Government Baseline security clearance, or the ability to obtain one.
