About the role

Our client is looking for a Principal Server Administrator to join their Corporate Services division. In this role, you will help support critical services across housing assistance, homelessness support, planning, public works, and regulatory reform programs.

Key Responsibilities

• Build, manage, and support Azure-based and hybrid infrastructure
• Automate infrastructure and operational tasks using PowerShell, JSON, and Bicep
• Develop and maintain Azure DevOps pipelines
• Manage virtual environments across Azure and VMware
• Implement and maintain automated patching for Windows and Linux using SCCM and Azure Update Manager
• Manage backup and recovery solutions including Azure Recovery Services Vaults and Veeam
• Monitor systems and respond to alerts using Azure Monitor
• Administer Active Directory and identity-integrated services
• Manage full server lifecycle including build, patch, upgrade, and decommission
• Troubleshoot and resolve incidents with focus on automation and reliability
• Lead responsive problem resolution services to minimise system disruption
• Provide expert advice and technical guidance to stakeholders at all levels
• Identify service improvement opportunities and coordinate solution development
• Promote high-quality customer service and continuous improvement practices
• Collaborate with team members to deliver ICT services across the department
• Conduct analytical and problem-solving activities across complex environments
• Manage and coordinate minor ICT projects and upgrades

Highly desirable criteria

• Strong experience in Azure infrastructure and hybrid environments
• Advanced automation capability using PowerShell, JSON, and Bicep
• Proven experience building and managing Azure DevOps pipelines
• Experience managing patching and updates across Windows and Linux environments
• Hands on experience with Azure Recovery Services Vaults and Veeam
• Strong background in VMware virtual environments

Desirable criteria

• Experience working within large Queensland Government or public sector environments
• Experience supporting complex multi-site ICT environments
• Exposure to Linux server administration
• Experience leading minor infrastructure projects

Skills and experience

• Extensive hands-on experience across the listed technologies
• Strong understanding of organisational strategy and alignment of ICT operations to business objectives
• Ability to plan, prioritise, and deliver work within agreed timeframes
• Advanced incident management and complex problem-solving capability
• Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills across technical and non-technical audiences
• Ability to present complex technical information in clear and concise language
• Proven ability to build effective working relationships and promote customer service excellence
