About the role
We are seeking an experienced and driven Principal Technical Assurance and Governance Officer to support the development and uplift of AI and data governance capabilities within a large, complex organisation. This role will play a key part in shaping how artificial intelligence is governed, assured, and embedded responsibly across a broad range of business and technology functions. You will be responsible for establishing robust governance frameworks, risk models, and assurance practices to ensure AI initiatives are safe, ethical, secure, and aligned with organisational and regulatory requirements. This is a highly strategic role, working closely with senior stakeholders to enable responsible AI adoption at scale.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and implement AI governance, risk, policy, and assurance frameworks.
• Develop and embed AI risk assessment methodologies, including scoring models and escalation pathways.
• Establish and operationalise assurance processes, including compliance monitoring and review mechanisms.
• Integrate AI governance practices into existing organisational frameworks and decision-making forums.
• Engage and influence stakeholders across business, legal, risk, and technology teams to drive adoption of governance practices.
Skills and experience
• Proven experience delivering governance frameworks, risk methodologies, and assurance processes for emerging technologies.
• Strong understanding of AI and data governance, including ethical AI principles such as fairness, transparency, and accountability.
• Demonstrated knowledge of Australian data privacy legislation and its application to AI and technology environments.
• Experience embedding data governance practices, including data quality, lineage, classification, and stewardship.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to influence senior executives.
Desirable
• Experience working within a government or highly regulated environment.
• Understanding of enterprise architecture principles and ICT frameworks.
• Exposure to AI implementation or data-driven transformation programs.
• Tertiary or postgraduate qualifications in ICT, Information Management, or a related discipline.
