About the role
Our State Government client is looking for a Product Specialist – Unix and Windows Infrastructure to deliver a structured technical review of integrated Unix and Windows environments transitioning under Machinery of Government changes. You will document and validate the current state environment, identify cross-platform dependencies, assess operational controls, and produce a high-level solution architecture and transition plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structured technical review of integrated Unix and Windows environments
- Develop service inventories, dependency maps and current state architecture artefacts
- Map cross-platform dependencies, including DNS, SMTP relay, proxy services and logging pathways
- Validate monitoring, escalation and security control boundaries
- Identify inherited risks and non-standard services
- Lead advanced system administration across Unix platforms, including Oracle Linux, Solaris and Red Hat, and Windows Server 2008 to 2025
- Provide technical advice to internal and external stakeholders within agreed service levels
- Lead technical input for tenders, proposals and customer solution presentations
- Develop architecture roadmaps and deliver proof of concepts
- Lead onboarding of customers and new architecture initiatives
- Model current, interim and target state architectures with defined transition gates
- Mentor technical specialists and drive infrastructure improvement initiatives
- Act as the technical point of contact for customer opportunities
- Contribute to cost modelling and product collateral aligned to enterprise objectives
Highly desirable criteria
- 7 plus years of experience in large-scale enterprise environments
- Deep expertise in Red Hat or Oracle Linux enterprise environments
- Strong experience administering or reviewing DNS BIND, Postfix or Sendmail, Squid proxy and centralised logging
- Experience delivering transitional architecture including current, interim and target state modelling
- Demonstrated security hardening across Linux and Windows environments
- Experience responding to tenders and presenting enterprise infrastructure solutions
Desirable criteria
- Understanding of Queensland Government or Australian Government ICT standards and cyber security frameworks
- Experience working within government governance and compliance environments
- Experience developing cost models and vendor aligned infrastructure solutions
Skills and experience
- Advanced system administration across Unix platforms including Oracle Linux, Solaris and Red Hat
- Advanced Windows Server administration across 2008 to 2025 environments
- Strong knowledge of system services, package management, systemd, cron, file permissions and SELinux
- Experience with DNS, SMTP relay, proxy services and enterprise logging configurations
- Strong documentation capability across service inventories and architecture artefacts
- Ability to communicate complex infrastructure concepts to diverse stakeholders
- Experience mentoring technical teams
- Bachelor Degree in IT, Computer Science or related field highly regarded
- Microsoft Windows Server and Red Hat certifications highly regarded
