About the role

We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the successful delivery of IT Projects and Minor Works initiatives for a state government department. This role involves working closely with implementation partners and key business areas to ensure effective planning, execution, and implementation of digital solutions that enhance operational efficiency and organisational capability. You will be part of a dedicated digital technology team responsible for driving innovation, improving service delivery, and supporting the organisation’s strategic vision through technology-led transformation.

Key responsibilities

• Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects within agreed scope, budget, and timelines.
• Engage with business and technical stakeholders to define project objectives, gather requirements, and manage expectations.
• Coordinate with third-party vendors and service providers to ensure high-quality delivery of solutions.
• Develop and implement change management strategies to support successful system adoption.
• Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks and issues, escalating when necessary.
• Maintain comprehensive project documentation including design specifications, test plans, and deployment guides.
• Ensure a smooth handover to operational support teams post-implementation.
• Provide regular project updates, reports, and insights to senior leadership and governance bodies.

Highly desirable criteria

• Experience working within utilities, government, or infrastructure environments.
• Strong understanding of enterprise-scale technology frameworks and digital transformation principles.
• Experience managing multiple concurrent projects in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment.

Desirable criteria

• Knowledge of cloud technologies, IT service management, or enterprise systems.
• Formal project management qualifications (e.g., PRINCE2, PMP, or Agile certifications).
• Demonstrated understanding of change management methodologies such as PROSCI or ADKAR.

Skills and experience

• Proven experience delivering IT or digital solution projects end-to-end.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and vendor management capabilities.
• Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
• Analytical and problem-solving mindset with excellent attention to detail.
• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, able to convey complex information clearly.
• Strong time management and self-motivation, with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
