About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior DevOps Engineer to join a high-performing government team on a long-term contract. This role is critical in maintaining and enhancing Continuous Delivery Pipelines and non-production environments, as well as developing and supporting in-house applications and infrastructure.

Estimated start date: Friday, 13 February 2026
Location: ACT; Hybrid (Canberra-based staff attend the office a minimum of 2 days per week. Remote work outside Canberra may be negotiable.)
Length of contract: 12 months
Extensions: Up to 3 x 12-month extensions possible
Security clearance: Must be able to obtain Baseline

Key responsibilities

• Automate and orchestrate deployment and provisioning tasks across cloud and containerised environments (AWS, Azure, Kubernetes/EKS).
• Provide configuration support and resolve software environment issues for development and testing teams.
• Build and manage release kits, ensuring distribution through pre-production and production in line with change management protocols.
• Maintain and upgrade DevOps tools (e.g., Jenkins, Digital.ai, SonarQube, GitHub).
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance pipeline efficiency and automation.
• Collaborate with fellow DevOps Engineers, Release Engineers, and delivery teams to ensure adherence to industry standards and best practices.
   

Highly desirable criteria

• Experience implementing solutions with major Cloud Service Providers (AWS or Azure).
• Strong knowledge of DevOps/DevSecOps practices and Infrastructure as Code (IaC).
• Expertise in container orchestration (Docker, Kaniko, Kubernetes/EKS).
• Previous development experience with common languages (Java, Groovy, Python).
• Hands-on experience with CI tools (Jenkins, Azure DevOps) and build tools (Maven, Gradle, npm).
• Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to manage technical staff and deliver projects on time.

Desirable criteria

• Experience with IP Rights systems.
• Familiarity with Jira, Confluence, and SharePoint.
• Availability to commence from the requested start date.
