About the role 

We are seeking an experienced Infrastructure Engineering Expert to join a high performing technology team responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining complex ICT infrastructure supporting critical digital services.

This role will see you working across physical, virtual, networking and cloud environments, ensuring secure, reliable and highly available infrastructure platforms. You will provide technical leadership, contribute to strategic infrastructure initiatives, support DevSecOps and automation practices, and collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to deliver enterprise-scale technology solutions.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain enterprise ICT infrastructure across physical, virtual and cloud environments.
• Manage the installation, configuration and ongoing operation of infrastructure platforms and system landscapes.
• Support project delivery through technical build, testing and deployment activities.
• Configure and manage non-functional platform capabilities including automation, scheduling, security, connectivity, archiving and output management.
• Develop and maintain backup, recovery and disaster recovery strategies to ensure business continuity.
• Perform incident investigation, problem management and root cause analysis to improve platform stability.
• Provide technical leadership, mentor team members and share subject matter expertise across the engineering team.
• Collaborate with architects, vendors and stakeholders to deliver secure and scalable infrastructure solutions.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures and engineering reports.
• Contribute to infrastructure planning, hardware deployment and continuous improvement initiatives.

Skills and experience

• Demonstrated experience designing, building and supporting enterprise ICT infrastructure environments.
• Strong experience developing and maintaining multiple integrated non-production environments.
• Experience with DevSecOps practices, infrastructure automation and continuous delivery.
• Hands-on experience with Linux and Red Hat Enterprise Linux environments.
• Experience using Ansible, GitLab, OpenShift and OpenStack.
• Strong scripting capability using Bash, Shell, Python, Perl, KSH or similar.
• Experience with ISPF/TSO, Control-M, Job Control Language (JCL) and REXX.
• Knowledge of JavaScript, TypeScript, Google V8 Engine and Google Protocol Buffers.
• Strong troubleshooting skills with experience performing root cause analysis and resolving complex technical issues.
• Experience working with backup, disaster recovery and enterprise infrastructure operations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, vendors and business stakeholders.
• Experience leading technical teams, mentoring engineers and managing competing priorities.

Desirable criteria

• Experience working within containerised Linux environments.
• Knowledge of M204 and SOUL.
• Experience delivering complex infrastructure changes in fast-paced enterprise environments.
• Experience supporting large-scale government or enterprise ICT platforms.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and vendor management capabilities.
