About the role

Our federal government client is looking for a Senior Linux Administrator who will work collaboratively to provide secure Linux services, Linux support, and related technology required to meet researcher needs.
 

Key responsibilities

• Drive innovation within Linux services in alignment with DSTG’s enterprise roadmaps.
• Deliver day-to-day delivery of Linux support services.
• Manage workloads, priorities and progress of system changes for Linux systems.
• Manage the workload, priorities and tasking of direct reports.
• Providing system administration and troubleshooting support services for complex research systems e.g. Linux, Linux virtualisation via on-premise cloud infrastructure. 
• Manage a range of Linux security initiatives and vulnerabilities, security monitoring and responding to security incidents in a unique research specific threat environment.
• Maintain, upgrade, and manage Linux operating systems, software, and/or hardware infrastructure, including change and configuration management of systems.
   

Essential criteria

• High level skills and experience in Linux scripting in at least one of: bash, perl, python. 
• Strong skills in general Linux system administration of CentOS/RedHat. 
• Strong web interface design skills interfacing to a backend Linux client-server environment. 
• Experience developing Ansible playbooks. 
• Experience with Certificate/PKI systems (for NAC). 
• Experience implementing Multi Factor Authentication on Linux. 
• Linux Certification (of any kind)
   

Desirable criteria

• Solid Understanding of structured query language (SQL) and strong programming skills in languages such as Python, Java, or Scala.
• Experience with physical data modelling, data warehousing, and ETL development and excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Knowledge of SQL databases for data warehouse such as Teradata, BigQuery, Snowflake, Oracle Exadata, Azure Synapse and newer SQL and NoSQL databases. Experience with BigQuery is preferrable however having at least one from the above could also be considered and strong communication and collaboration skills including working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
• GCP Data Engineer certification highly desirable
