About the Role

IP Australia is seeking a highly skilled Cloud and On-Prem Storage & Backup Engineer to design, manage, and optimise enterprise data storage and backup systems across on-premises data centres and cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, and M365).

The role plays a critical part in ensuring data integrity, resilience, and recoverability, safeguarding the organisation’s critical information assets and supporting business continuity.

You’ll bridge on-prem and cloud infrastructure, implementing secure, scalable, and efficient storage and backup solutions that align with compliance and disaster recovery objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and implement enterprise-level storage and backup solutions across on-premises (SAN/NAS) and cloud environments (AWS, Azure).
• Develop and maintain backup strategies, schedules, and policies to ensure data protection and recovery readiness.
• Plan and execute disaster recovery testing, ensuring alignment with RPO/RTO targets.
• Monitor and optimise storage and backup performance, capacity, and availability.
• Troubleshoot and resolve storage and backup failures or data access issues promptly.
• Ensure security and compliance, implementing encryption, access controls, and adherence to standards such as GDPR and ASD Essential 8.
• Maintain documentation of architectures, configurations, and recovery processes.
• Collaborate and mentor, working closely with IT teams and providing training on best practices.

Skills and Experience

• Proven experience with on-premises storage systems (SAN, NAS, DAS), including strong hands-on experience with NetApp Storage.
• Demonstrated expertise with enterprise backup tools such as Commvault, Veeam, Rubrik, AWS Backup, or Azure Recovery Services.
• Strong understanding of cloud storage technologies (AWS S3, Azure Blob Storage) and hybrid integrations.
• Knowledge of Windows/Linux servers, VMware/Hyper-V, and storage networking protocols (iSCSI, Fibre Channel, NFS, SMB).
• Proficiency in automation and scripting (PowerShell, Python, Bash); exposure to Infrastructure-as-Code tools is advantageous.
• Experience ensuring data security and compliance (encryption at rest/in transit, ASD Essential 8, GDPR).
• Excellent problem-solving, documentation, and collaboration skills with experience mentoring or supporting junior staff.
