About the Role

As a Senior Security Administrator, you will play a crucial role in the Security Operations team, which is responsible for managing the department’s ICT operational security infrastructure. The role focuses on mitigating security risks and vulnerabilities while collaborating with technical teams, vendors, and service providers to maintain a secure and reliable technical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide expert advice and implement operational security infrastructure and process improvements to meet business objectives.
• Monitor and enhance the security compliance maturity level of the technical infrastructure against Queensland Government Information Standards and industry best practices.
• Conduct security risk and vulnerability assessments, remediate issues, and ensure alignment with ACSC Essential 8 security controls.
• Develop and maintain fit-for-purpose work practices within the security operations team.
• Inform management of risks, operational issues, and emerging trends in operational security.
• Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including government agencies, vendors, and partners, to address security challenges effectively.

Essential Criteria

Extensive experience in managing operational security infrastructure in enterprise-level ICT environments, including expertise in:

• Scripting with PowerShell.
• Microsoft technologies, such as Defender for endpoint security, Intune, Sentinel, Purview, and ASR.
• Email proxy systems like Microsoft Defender for Office 365.
• Web proxy solutions like Zscaler.
• Proven ability to establish and implement security baseline policies in Intune and migrate endpoint and server security policies from Active Directory and SCCM to Intune.
• Strong understanding of security compliance frameworks and standards, with experience prioritising Microsoft “Secure Score” improvements.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience with the end-to-end implementation of security policy migrations across diverse ICT environments, including change control and pilot testing.
• Proficiency in developing artefacts, documentation, and reports to support operational security processes and technologies.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team, evaluate risks, and proactively manage priorities to meet organisational commitments.
