About the role
Our State Government client is seeking an experienced Solution Architect to provide solution architecture advice, documentation and design control across a complex digital product and platform.
You will work closely with product management, technical delivery, business analysis, data and spatial, engineering, testing, release management and operational teams. The role will focus on documenting current and target architecture, improving design control, assessing solution impacts and supporting upcoming releases and onboarding requirements.
Location: Hobart or Brisbane preferred.
Key responsibilities
- Document and maintain current and target solution architecture across business, information, application and technology domains.
- Develop architecture artefacts including solution context views, business process views, spatial and data flows, application component views, integration views and architecture decision records.
- Provide design impact assessments covering business processes, data requirements, applications, integrations, technology, testing, releases and supportability.
- Establish practical architecture governance and ensure key design decisions are documented and traceable.
- Provide architecture advice on product integrity, roadmap impacts, release scope, feature trade-offs and solution options.
- Assess jurisdiction-specific requirements against the core product, configuration options, future onboarding needs and long-term supportability.
- Identify common capabilities, configurable requirements, release-specific variations and technical debt.
- Support release planning by identifying dependencies across features, data readiness, engineering assurance, integrations, testing and operational support.
- Work with business analysis, data and spatial teams to align requirements, user journeys, data dependencies and solution design.
- Define and maintain application and integration architecture across portals, assessment modules, mapping, reporting, workflow, APIs and supporting tools.
- Establish architecture principles covering hosting, environments, security, identity and access management, performance, scalability, resilience and maintainability.
- Ensure non-functional requirements including availability, security, privacy, usability, auditability and supportability are incorporated into solution designs.
- Identify design decisions that risk creating technical complexity, support burden or future onboarding constraints.
- Support technical handover, release, hypercare and transition into Business As Usual operations.
Desirable criteria
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in information technology, software engineering, systems engineering, enterprise architecture, business architecture, data, spatial systems, engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience within government, transport, road networks, heavy vehicles, permits, access management, spatial, mapping, engineering or regulatory environments.
- Experience with automated or semi-automated decision systems requiring explainability, auditability and strong data quality.
- Experience with road network data, route planning, mapping applications, GIS platforms, asset data, rules engines, workflow systems, portals, APIs or enterprise integration.
- Experience delivering national, multi-jurisdictional, multi-agency or shared-service platforms.
- Experience working within Agile, hybrid or iterative delivery environments using tools such as Jira and Confluence.
- Architecture certification such as TOGAF, ArchiMate, cloud architecture certification or equivalent.
Skills and experience
- Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect, Product Architect or senior solution design lead across complex ICT, digital, data, spatial, integration or enterprise application environments.
- Strong experience producing solution architecture documentation, design options, architecture decision records and impact assessments.
- Experience working across business, information, application and technology architecture domains.
- Strong application and integration architecture experience across portals, workflow, business rules, reporting, APIs and modular product design.
- Experience supporting product and delivery teams with release shaping, roadmap implications and design trade-offs.
- Experience balancing core product architecture with jurisdiction-specific or release-specific requirements.
- Strong understanding of business requirements, operating models, user journeys, process impacts and policy constraints.
- Working knowledge of information, data and spatial architecture, including data flows, data quality, reference data, auditability, GIS and cross-system dependencies.
- Sound understanding of cloud and hosting platforms, cyber security, identity and access management, performance, scalability, resilience and operational support.
- Strong stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to communicate complex architecture considerations to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Benefits
- Work with a State Government organisation on a complex digital environment.
- Work across solution architecture, spatial and data, integration, digital applications and technology architecture.
- Collaborate with experienced product, engineering, business analysis, technical delivery and operational teams.
