About the role

We are seeking an experienced Solution Architect to support the delivery of a complex, enterprise-scale technology initiative focused on integrated transport coordination and operational capabilities.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to shape end-to-end technology solutions across multiple architecture domains, including cloud, data, application, infrastructure, integration, and information security. You will work closely with business stakeholders, project teams, technical specialists, and vendors to translate business requirements into secure, scalable, resilient, and fit-for-purpose solutions.

The successful candidate will combine strong architectural expertise with hands-on technical capability, providing leadership across solution design, technology evaluation, proof-of-concept initiatives, and project delivery.

Key responsibilities

• Collaborate with business stakeholders, project teams, and subject matter experts to understand business needs and define effective technology solutions.
• Develop and maintain solution architectures, conceptual and logical designs, technical blueprints, integration models, and supporting documentation.
• Design solutions across business, information, application, technology, and security architecture domains.
• Define system interfaces, APIs, integration patterns, data flows, and application interactions across complex technology environments.
• Design secure, scalable, resilient, and high-performing solutions that meet functional and non-functional requirements.
• Evaluate emerging technologies, cloud platforms, frameworks, and tools to support strategic business objectives.
• Assess existing systems and infrastructure to identify opportunities for modernisation, optimisation, and integration.
• Conduct options analysis and provide architectural advice for business cases, investment decisions, feasibility assessments, and proof-of-concept initiatives.
• Provide technical leadership and architectural governance throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring alignment with enterprise architecture standards and principles.
• Develop and review architecture deliverables, including solution designs, ICT strategies, technical position papers, and architecture standards.
• Lead technical discovery, capability assessments, and exploratory initiatives where requirements and implementation pathways are evolving.
• Support proof-of-concept and proof-of-capability activities, balancing innovation, delivery timelines, and longer-term production architecture considerations.
• Build strong relationships with stakeholders, delivery teams, technical specialists, vendors, and external partners.
• Manage competing priorities across multiple initiatives while maintaining the quality and integrity of architecture outcomes.

Highly desirable criteria

• Experience designing solutions involving operational technology (OT), Internet of Things (IoT), data platforms, and cloud environments, particularly AWS.
• Experience with CCTV, video surveillance platforms, or other operational technology solutions.
• Strong understanding of complex systems integration across cloud, enterprise applications, networking, and operational environments.
• Experience designing APIs, data flows, security boundaries, and deployment approaches across hybrid technology environments.
• Proven capability in technical discovery, proof-of-concept development, and emerging technology assessments.
• Experience providing architectural governance and technical leadership across complex delivery programs.

Desirable criteria

• Experience working within transport, infrastructure, government, or other large enterprise environments.
• Familiarity with multi-modal transport systems, operational coordination platforms, or statewide technology programs.
• Experience with cloud-native architecture, data integration, and modernisation of legacy systems.
• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks, security standards, and technology governance practices.
• Experience supporting innovation initiatives where requirements are evolving and solutions require iterative investigation.
• Experience preparing technical strategies, architecture roadmaps, position papers, and investment recommendations.

• Demonstrated experience as a Solution Architect delivering complex technology solutions in enterprise environments.
• Strong expertise in solution architecture, technical design, and the development of architecture artefacts.
• Sound understanding of enterprise technologies, systems integration, cloud platforms, networking, and information security principles.
• Proven ability to translate business requirements into practical, fit-for-purpose technology solutions.
• Experience assessing technology options, conducting feasibility analysis, and developing solution estimates.
• Strong knowledge of integration architectures, APIs, data flows, security boundaries, and deployment models.
• Hands-on technical delivery experience, with the ability to move between architecture, technical analysis, and detailed solution definition.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication, problem-solving, and technical leadership skills.
• Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Strong planning and organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple concurrent initiatives in a fast-paced environment.
• A proven track record of delivering quality architecture outcomes that support successful project delivery.
• A current Curriculum Vitae and at least two recent professional referees.
