About the role
Our State Government client is seeking an experienced Principal Software Developer to join the Network Development team. Based in Brisbane, you will play a key role in developing, enhancing and supporting the systems and tools which deliver secure network services to multiple public safety agencies across the state.
Working as part of a collaborative team of technical specialists, you will lead the design, development and governance of business applications while contributing to the delivery of secure, reliable and innovative digital services. You will have the opportunity to influence technical direction, establish development standards and work on solutions that support critical government operations.
Key responsibilities
- Develop and implement the strategic direction for business application software development.
- Lead the analysis, design and implementation of new systems in line with established technical standards and policies.
- Develop new features and capabilities for the PSN Portal and supporting applications.
- Establish and maintain software development governance processes, including design and code reviews, to ensure quality outcomes.
- Define and promote best practice programming tools, techniques and development standards.
- Provide Tier 3 application support for Linux-based systems, including troubleshooting and resolving complex technical issues.
- Provide expert advice on business systems, application architecture, implementation, transition activities and ongoing support.
- Collaborate with internal teams, vendors and stakeholders to deliver secure, scalable and reliable software solutions.
Desirable criteria
- Experience working within large, complex enterprise or government ICT environments.
- Experience supporting mission-critical applications and services.
- Familiarity with Ansible.
- Experience working within DevOps and Continuous Integration environments.
- Experience leading technical governance, architecture reviews or code quality initiatives.
Skills and experience
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate experience with:
- Web services and API development.
- Python development.
- JavaScript, including Vue.
- HTML, CSS and Bash scripting.
- Linux operating systems.
- Git and Bitbucket.
- Docker and containerised application development.
- PostgreSQL and SQL databases.
- Jira and Confluence.
- Jenkins and Continuous Integration pipelines.
- Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies.
- Leading technical design, software development and implementation activities.
- Providing expert technical advice and Tier 3 application support.
- Working with internal and external stakeholders to deliver high-quality technical solutions.
