SAP HCM Lead ABAP Developer

About the Role

Are you passionate about leading transformative technology projects? As the SAP HCM Lead ABAP Developer, you will play a critical role in our S/4HANA conversion project, focusing on ABAP custom code compliance and optimization. This is an exciting opportunity where you will implement modern “clean core” principles while working closely with a dynamic team and driving significant improvements to our SAP HCM capabilities. Reporting directly to the Program Director of Corporate Technology Solutions, you will be at the forefront of innovative developments in the organization.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct thorough system analysis to modernize and optimize the ABAP code base for the transition from SAP ECC6 to SAP S/4HANA, specifically targeting the HCM Line of Business.
• Design, develop, and implement custom components adhering to SAP’s clean core methodologies.
• Translate business requirements into functional models and provide expert consultation to team leaders during system implementation.
• Create and define business rules essential for effective systems implementation, ensuring compliance with legal and business mandates.
• Lead initiatives to establish new design standards aligned with SAP’s low code development approach.
• Oversee and perform quality reviews on code developments to maximize processing efficiency.
• Update existing development strategies and align current setups with newly established coding standards.
• Provide leadership in the design, development, and testing of the HCM product solution, ensuring a secure and professional environment.
• Optimize the solution continuously throughout the S/4HANA conversion project.
• Offer your vast experience in designing and testing components of the HCM product solution to ensure optimal lifecycle maintenance.

Skills and Experience

Essential:

• Proven expertise in supporting and developing large-scale SAP HCM solutions, especially in transitioning from SAP ECC6 to S/4HANA.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, particularly in HCM areas such as Organizational Management, Payroll (preferably Australian), Time Management, and more.
• Extensive experience in SAP ABAP programming and workbench development relative to HCM solutions.
• Proficient in formulating and documenting both functional and technical specifications.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• A solid understanding of current technical trends, including service-oriented architecture and systems integration.

Desirable:

• Knowledge of payroll legislation and award structures in government.
• Experience with Integrated HR and Rostering Solutions.
• Familiarity with SAP conversion projects and best practices.
• Experience in complex project management methodologies (e.g., Prince2, ITIL, Agile, SAFE).

Preferred Education and Experience:

• A degree or postgraduate qualification in Information Technology, Commerce, or Business Management.
• A minimum of 7 to 10 years in similar roles, preferably within complex, large business implementations.

Other Requirements:

• Ability to travel intrastate as needed.
• Experience working within healthcare services is a plus.
• Availability to work full-time on-site with the potential for extended hours.
