About the role

Shape the future of enterprise cloud capability in a major Queensland Government digital services environment. This is an exciting opportunity for a Senior Cloud AWS Engineer to lead cloud governance, security and platform engineering while enabling development teams to build and deploy modern cloud-native applications. You’ll join a collaborative Agile team delivering secure, scalable digital services that support thousands of Queenslanders every day.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Lead AWS platform engineering, cloud governance and technical solution design.
• Guide development teams on secure cloud architecture and deployment patterns.
• Deliver AWS security solutions across identity, networking and enterprise controls.
• Mentor technical team members and contribute to platform improvement initiatives.
• Work with product teams and stakeholders to deliver reliable digital services.

Highly desirable criteria

• Enterprise AWS governance, including AWS Organizations and Control Tower.
• Strong knowledge of AWS security services such as Security Hub, GuardDuty, Detective and Network Firewall.
• Experience with AWS CDK (TypeScript), Java or Node.js development.
• Expertise in ECS, EKS, Lambda and cloud-native application deployment.
• Previous Platform Engineering or DevOps leadership experience.

Desirable criteria

• Experience within large enterprise or government cloud environments.
• Knowledge of event-driven architecture and modern application design.
• Agile delivery experience within cross-functional teams.
• Ability to present technical solutions to both technical and business stakeholders.
• Experience supporting highly available digital platforms.

Skills and experience

• Extensive AWS cloud engineering and architecture experience.
• Strong understanding of cloud security, governance and best practice.
• Platform Engineering and DevOps expertise.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
• Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor engineers.
