About the role 

Our Federal Government client is seeking an experienced Senior Java Developer to join a highly skilled team supporting and enhancing a mission critical enterprise application that underpins Australia’s maritime and aviation search and rescue operations, as well as pollution response activities.

Working alongside experienced Java and .NET developers, you will be responsible for developing, maintaining and supporting enterprise applications across Java, Oracle and AWS technologies. You will contribute to the ongoing enhancement of a critical operational platform, delivering secure, reliable and scalable solutions that support essential national services.

Key Responsibilities
 

• Develop and maintain enterprise-grade software using Java and Oracle technologies.
• Design, develop and support backend applications across Java, Oracle and AWS environments.
• Develop and maintain web-based user interfaces using ReactJS, HTML and CSS.
• Design logical and physical data models and implement database solutions using Oracle.
• Develop CRUD operations using Java Object Relational Mapping (ORM) frameworks, including JPA and Hibernate.
• Create and maintain RESTful APIs, SOAP web services, OpenAPI specifications, XML schemas and WSDLs.
• Produce detailed technical documentation, solution designs and technical specifications.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines and DevOps workflows using Jenkins, Git, Maven and Ant.
• Perform software builds, deployments and production releases in accordance with established processes.
• Support system integration, automated testing and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical advice and application support to senior stakeholders.
• Participate in a rostered 24/7 on-call support rotation for critical production incidents.

Desirable Criteria

• Experience with Java EE and enterprise design patterns.
• Exposure to reactive programming.
• Experience building and supporting cloud-native applications within AWS.
• Experience working on mission critical, highly available enterprise applications.
• Experience implementing automated testing frameworks.
• Strong technical documentation and solution design experience.
• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement and software engineering best practices.

Skills and Experience

Technical Skills
 

• Minimum 8 years’ commercial Java development experience.
• Strong experience with Java, Spring and Spring Boot.
• Experience with JPA, Hibernate and Object Relational Mapping (ORM).
• Experience developing RESTful and SOAP web services.
• Strong knowledge of OpenAPI, XML, JSON, XSD and WSDL.
• Experience working within Linux or Unix environments using Bash.
• Strong understanding of Maven lifecycle management and Continuous Integration practices.
• Experience using Jenkins, Git, Maven and Ant.
• Strong Oracle database experience, including data modelling and stored procedures.
• Experience developing solutions using AWS services, including:
  • EC2
  • Lambda
  • API Gateway
  • S3
  • SQS
  • CloudFormation
• Experience implementing unit testing and system integration testing.
• Strong commitment to software engineering best practices and developing robust, maintainable enterprise applications.
