About the role
Our Federal Government client is seeking an experienced Finance Lead to support a major Tier 1 program.
Working closely with the Director of Finance, Planning and Reporting, you will provide strategic financial leadership, management and governance across a significant legislative reform program.
You will lead a small finance team responsible for internal budget management, asset management, project accounting and external budget submissions.
Key responsibilities
- Lead and oversee a small financial management team.
- Manage large and complex Tier 1 program budgets.
- Provide strategic financial advice to executives and program managers.
- Support internal management accounting and project accounting functions.
- Manage internal budgets, program finances, assets and external budget submissions.
- Prepare timely financial reports for directors, executives and governance committees.
- Develop financial governance policies, procedures and controls.
- Support capital asset management and end-of-year financial reporting.
- Analyse complex financial data to support planning and decision-making.
- Build relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide specialist advice on financial, policy, project and operational matters.
- Represent the agency at relevant meetings.
- Support priority financial activities across other Tier 1 programs.
Desirable criteria
- More than 20 years of accounting experience across government and private-sector environments.
- Experience managing enterprise and project management accounting functions.
- Experience managing general business and ICT budgets.
- Experience supporting contract management and contract development.
- Strong understanding of financial statements and asset accounting practices.
- Experience using enterprise financial accounting systems.
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Visio and Outlook.
- Experience using Azure DevOps, Adobe Acrobat Pro or other project management software.
Skills and experience
- More than five years of experience analysing and managing large, complex Tier 1 program budgets.
- Experience delivering internal and external management accounting, project accounting and executive financial advice.
- Experience leading a small finance team and overseeing program financial management activities.
- Experience in capital asset management and year-end financial reporting.
- Experience developing internal accounting policies in line with relevant accounting standards.
- Strong skills in analysing and managing large, complex datasets.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, collaboration and negotiation skills.
- Ability to present financial information clearly and persuasively.
- Strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and strict deadlines.
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team environment.
- Experience supervising staff and identifying team training needs.
- Relevant postgraduate qualifications and/or professional accounting membership, such as CPA or CA.
