About the role

We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer with a passion for Artificial Intelligence (AI), innovation and emerging technologies to join a high-performing technology team within a large Federal Government environment.

This role offers the opportunity to design, develop, test and support innovative digital solutions, proof-of-concepts and enterprise technology capabilities that deliver real business value. Working within an innovation-focused team, you will help evaluate emerging technologies, build rapid prototypes and transform experimental ideas into secure, scalable and enterprise-ready solutions.
 

Key responsibilities

• Design, develop, test and support modern software applications, APIs and digital solutions.
• Build proof-of-concepts and rapid prototypes to validate innovative ideas and emerging technologies.
• Develop secure, scalable and maintainable solutions using .NET, Python and Microsoft Azure.
• Contribute to the evaluation and adoption of AI technologies, software engineering practices and innovative delivery approaches.
• Translate prototype solutions into enterprise-ready capabilities aligned with architecture, security and governance standards.
• Develop reusable technical components, libraries, frameworks and engineering standards.
• Collaborate with architects, developers, delivery teams and business stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes.
• Apply modern software engineering principles to solve complex business challenges.
• Support capability uplift through mentoring, documentation and knowledge sharing.
• Balance innovation and rapid delivery with enterprise reliability, security and risk management.
   

Highly desirable criteria

• Strong commercial experience developing C# and .NET applications, web services and APIs.
• Experience with Python for AI/ML development, prototyping and modern web frameworks.
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Terraform.
• Experience establishing reusable engineering patterns, frameworks and enterprise capabilities.
• Demonstrated experience working in AI, innovation or start-up environments.
• Practical experience applying AI and machine learning solutions to solve business problems.
• Experience delivering technology solutions within Government or large enterprise environments.
• Knowledge of AI safety principles and responsible AI practices.

Desirable criteria

• Experience working within Agile delivery environments.
• Strong collaboration and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Experience automating environments using CI/CD pipelines, including Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions.
• Experience integrating DevOps practices into AI workflows, including model deployment, version control and monitoring.
• Contributions to open-source projects, hackathons, innovation initiatives, published research or personal AI projects will be highly regarded.
   

Skills and experience

• Proven experience as a Software Engineer, Full Stack Developer or AI Engineer.
• Strong programming skills in C#, .NET and Python.
• Experience building cloud-native applications using Microsoft Azure.
• Knowledge of Infrastructure as Code and Terraform.
• Experience designing scalable, secure and maintainable software solutions.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary technical teams.
• Passion for emerging technologies, innovation and continuous learning.
