Overview

An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced Solution Architect to join a major Queensland Government program focused on delivering critical outcomes for the community.

Working within a dedicated Program Delivery team, you will assess existing business and technology capabilities, identify architectural gaps and risks, and develop a clear pathway towards a more scalable, sustainable and fit-for-purpose technology environment.

This is a strategic architecture role with the opportunity to influence future technology investment, system capability and operational delivery.
 

About the Role

As a Solution Architect, you will undertake a comprehensive assessment of the program’s current application, data, integration and technology architecture.

You will work closely with business and technical stakeholders to understand current challenges, technical debt, operational risks and future requirements. Using this insight, you will develop a target-state architecture and strategic roadmap aligned with business outcomes and the requirements of the next Response Plan.

The role will involve producing practical recommendations that can guide future investment and delivery decisions, with a strong focus on technology, data, integration, reporting, governance and operational efficiency.

The engagement is expected to commence in October 2026 for an initial six-month period, with the successful candidate working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
 

Key Responsibilities

• Assess current application, data, integration and technology architecture.

• Identify architectural gaps, weaknesses, risks, technical debt and constraints affecting future delivery.

• Evaluate existing systems, information flows and reporting capabilities against contemporary architecture principles and industry best practice.

• Develop a target-state architecture aligned with business objectives, operational requirements and technology capabilities.

• Develop a strategic roadmap outlining recommended improvements over the next 3–5 years.

• Prioritise architectural issues and opportunities based on business impact, operational risk, implementation effort and strategic value.

• Provide recommendations covering system enhancements, new capabilities, integrations and data management.

• Assess and recommend improvements to reporting, governance, assurance and technology capabilities.

• Advise on architectural standards, design principles and governance processes.

• Work collaboratively with business and technical stakeholders to validate findings and recommendations.

• Produce clear, practical and actionable architecture documentation and recommendations.

• Develop a prioritised action plan to support the transition towards a best-practice enterprise architecture.

Highly Desirable Criteria

• Proven experience as a Solution Architect within complex enterprise or government environments.

• Strong experience conducting current-state architecture assessments across applications, data, integrations and technology platforms.

• Demonstrated ability to develop target-state architectures and multi-year technology roadmaps.

• Strong understanding of application, data, integration and technology architecture principles.

• Proven experience identifying and prioritising technical debt, architectural risks, capability gaps and improvement opportunities.

• Ability to translate complex technical findings into clear business recommendations and investment priorities.

• Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work across business, technical and operational teams.

• Experience developing high-quality architecture artefacts, assessment reports, roadmaps and strategic recommendations.

• Strong analytical, conceptual and problem-solving capabilities.

• Ability to assess technology options based on business value, risk, cost, benefits and implementation considerations.

Desirable Criteria

• Previous Queensland Government or broader public sector experience.

• Experience within large-scale transformation, regulatory, emergency management or operational response programs.

• Knowledge of enterprise architecture frameworks and governance practices.

• Experience developing architecture strategies spanning technology, data, applications and integration.

• Experience assessing reporting and information management capabilities.

• Relevant tertiary qualifications in Information Technology, Computer Science, Architecture or a related discipline.

Key Deliverables

• During the engagement, the successful candidate will be expected to deliver:

• A comprehensive current-state architecture assessment covering applications, integrations, data and supporting technology platforms.

• A target-state architecture and 3–5 year strategic roadmap.

• A prioritised register of architectural gaps, risks and improvement opportunities, including indicative costs, benefits and implementation considerations.

• Recommendations for technology, data, reporting and governance capabilities required to support future delivery.

• A final report outlining key architectural weaknesses, prioritised actions and recommended pathways for improvement.
